What are they and what is the difference?
Freediving
- Freediving is primarily about exploring underwater environments, enhancing breath-hold capabilities, and, for some, competing in depth or distance challenges.
- Freediving requires rigorous training in breath control, equalization, and underwater safety techniques, often with a competitive edge.
Mermaid
- Mermaid programs focus on artistic expression, fluid movement, and performance in the water, blending exercise with creativity.
- Mermaid training emphasizes graceful movements, posture, and body coordination, creating an immersive, playful experience rather than aiming for extreme depth or distance.

COACH WINNIE
Coach Winnie’s expertise is anchored in world-class training under elite industry figures. She earned her mermaid and freediving certifications from globally recognized instructors, including Mr. KK (one of the earliest SSI Mermaid Instructor Trainers and former Scuba ITD), Ms. Corinna (SSI Mermaid ITD who trained the first global cohort of instructors), and Ms. Sura (China’s first female Freediving ITD). All three mentors hold SSI’s prestigious “Diamond Instructor” status, reflecting the highest professional standards. This rigorous, internationally diverse training ensures Coach Winnie brings cutting-edge techniques and authoritative knowledge to her teaching.
With four(4) years of experience as a certified Mermaid Instructor, Coach Winnie has trained over 300 students, showcasing her dedication and effectiveness. She was also selected for the inaugural China National Mermaid Competition’s training program in 2022, highlighting her competitive caliber. While pandemic- related delays and her relocation to Malaysia prevented her final participation, her involvement underscores her standing as a pioneering figure in China’s mermaid community. Her blend of technical excellence, proven teaching success, and industry recognition positions her as an invaluable asset for delivering premium training experiences.
